Advocacy We assist persons with disabilities to improve their skills to advocate for themselves and to defend their own interests. We also assist to change habits and practices in the community that are barriers to independent living. Independent Living Skills The Center assists people with disabilities to enhance their skills to live independently, such as using public transportation, managing personal budgets, or improving daily living habits. Information and Referral The Center maintains comprehensive information files on available services and resources for people with disabilities. Just a sampling of these are accessible housing, transportation, and employment opportunities. Peer Counseling The Center has a roster of persons with disabilities who can counsel others with similar disabilities to explore their options and learn to live independently. Such as adjusting to a newly-acquired disability, experiencing changes in living arrangements, and learning to use community services. |
